Broadening your Hersey & Blanchard’s leadership style range
The art of leadership and management is knowing when to use which style, how to listen and observe its success, and change style when you need to. This, of course, means you need all styles available to you.
The two styles used less frequently, and people often want to develop skills in, are ‘telling’ and ‘delegating’.
Recognising how all styles can be helpful and effective is important - sometimes for the leader and manager, sometimes for the person being managed and hopefully for both.
The first thing to remember is that a ‘delegating’ style is not the same as delegation. A leader and manager can delegate in any style, exploring when to implement, and utilising these styles can be done further in our style range handout.
